暇な時間は、音楽を作ったりピアノを弾いたりするのが好きだよ。シドニーでは、何年間か、いくつかのバンドで演奏したり、何件かアマチュアの企画のために曲を書いたりしたんだ。日本に来て一年後に、いくつかのメディアの企画に招待され、その企画では、さまざまな分野のアーティストやパフォーマーと一緒に仕事をしたんだ。（写真家、プロジェクションマッピングのアーティスト、詩人、ダンサーやその他音楽家。）ほとんどの企画は、テーマに沿ってショーを作ったんだ。その他は、ギャラリーでの展示会だったよ。

In my free time, I like to make music and play the piano. Over the years in Sydney, I played with a couple of bands and wrote some music for a couple of amateur projects. After a year in Japan, I got invited to work on some mixed media projects. On these projects, I worked with different kinds of artists and performers (I.e. photographers, projection mapping artists, poets, dancers and other musicians). For most projects, we would create a show around a theme. Other projects have been gallery exhibitions.

初めて旅行で日本に来た時に日本の都市の大きさとスタイリッシュなところに感動したよ。日本を何度も訪れた事のある僕の姉は、日本の事を好意的に良く話していたんだ。僕は妻に出会ってから日本に初めて来たんだ。彼女の両親に初めて会い行くためにね。

When I first came to Japan on a trip, I was amazed at how big and stylish the cities were. My sister, who comes to Japan a lot, has always talked fondly about it. After meeting my wife, I went to Japan for the first time: I came over to meet her parents for the first time.

日本の都市のすばらしい点は、一人でも行ける場所がたくさんあることかな。人によっては、ちょっとつまらないとか、社交的じゃないと思うかもしれないけど、僕はそういう場所の静かで、控えめなところが好きなんだ。あと、実際にそういう場所の方が、大きなクラブやお祭りよりも社交的な場所だったりもするんだよ。
誤解しないでね、もちろん友達と出かけたり、日本のお祭りに行くのも大好きだからね。ただ、シドニーには、そういう静かで1人でも行けるような場所がないんだ。ミュージックバーとかミュージックカフェみたいな場所はオーストラリアにはないんだよ。僕のお気に入りの静かな場所の一つは、友達が連れて行ってくれた西東京の立川にあるウイスキーバーなんだ。

A cool thing about the cities in Japan is that they have a lot of places to go to by yourself. Some people might think it’s a bit boring or antisocial, but I love the quiet and low key nature of these places. And actually they can be more social than big clubs and festivals.
Don’t get me wrong, I love to hang out with friends and go to Japanese festivals. It’s just something that you don’t really get in Sydney: Places like music bars and music cafes just don’t exist in Australia. One of my favourite quiet places is a whiskey bar that my friend took me to in Tachikawa, west Tokyo.

日本でかなりたくさんの友達ができて、彼らと一緒に出かけるのを楽しんでいるよ。あと、日本の美術館が大好きで、機会がありさえすれば行っているよ。僕が行った中で一番印象に残っている展示会の一つが外苑前にあるワタリウム美術館だよ。そこで、坂本龍一さんの新しいアルバム Asyncの制作に使われた芸術空間を見たんだ。

I’ve made quite a few friends over here and have had a lot of fun hanging out with them. I love the museums here and try to go to them when I get the chance. One of the more memorable exhibitions I went to was the Watarium museum in Gaienmae. Here I saw a couple of installations for Ryuichi Sakamoto’s new album Async.
