時間がある時は何してますか？What do you do in your free time?
最近は、ほとんどの時間を犬1匹と猫2匹のお世話に費やしてるよ。お世話するのは結構大変だけど、その分かわいいし、やっぱり飼ってよかったなって思うね。時間があるときは、テレビゲームをしたり映画を観たりしてるよ。妻と一緒に新しい食べ物に挑戦するのも好きだし、たまに一緒に料理もするよ。
Most of my time these days is spent taking care of my dog and two cats. They are such a hassle to take care of but worth it. I like to play video games and watch movies when I can find the time. My wife and I also love trying new food and sometimes cooking together.
日本に来て驚いたことは？What has surprised you since you came to Japan?
日本全国に自動販売機やコンビニがすごくたくさんあるところかな。24時間いつでも開いてるし、便利なものがいろいろ揃ってるから、日本って本当に暮らしやすい国だと思うよ。夜中にコンビニにお菓子を買いに行くこともよくあるよ。
The absurd number of vending machines and convenience stores scattered across the country. They are open 24 hours and have such a good selection of useful items, making Japan such a convenient place to live. I often make late night convenient store snack runs.
あなたのホームタウンで面白いところ、またはあなたのホームタウンで恋しいことは？Something interesting about your hometown or what do you miss about your hometown?
やっぱり食べ物だね！日本の料理もすごくおいしいし、クオリティもいつも高いけど、やっぱりテキサスの食べ物にはかなわないね。特にテキサスのバーベキューとメキシコ料理が恋しいよ。また地元に帰って、お気に入りのお店を巡るのが今から楽しみなんだ！
Definitely the food! Japan has amazing cuisine and the quality is always on point, but nothing beats the food in Texas. I especially miss Texas BBQ and Mexican food. I can’t wait to visit home again and hit up my favorite spots.
日本でお気に入りの場所は？Favorite place in Japan?
練馬は、日本で初めて住んだ場所だから、今でも特別な思い入れがあるんだ。お気に入りの焼き鳥屋台もあるし、今まで行った中で一番おいしい焼肉屋さんもあるよ。数えきれないくらい楽しい思い出が詰まった場所なんだよね。
Nerima will always have a special place in my heart because it is the first place I lived in Japan. It has my favorite yakitori stand and the best yakiniku restaurant I’ve been to. I have too many good memories there to count.
日本でのお気に入りの思い出は？Favorite memory in Japan?
Last year my wife and I went to Atami. I really had a great time on this trip. It’s such a good place to relax but also has a lot of fun things to do. We ate delicious sea food and pudding, visited Atami Castle, and went to the hot spring. I look forward to visiting again soon.
