Why I Chose Workman Sneakers for My Daily Walks in Chiba

Hi everyone,
It’s Jesse from Jabble Chiba Eikaiwa (千葉の英会話スクール) 😊
If you’ve talked to me for even a few minutes at school, you probably already know that I love walking. Honestly, walking is not just exercise for me — it’s one of my favorite ways to relax, explore, and clear my head after a busy day. In Japan, I also use walking as my main form of transportation whenever possible. Instead of automatically taking the train or bus, I usually prefer to put on a comfortable pair of shoes and head out on foot.
Living in Chiba has made that habit even more enjoyable. There are so many interesting neighborhoods, parks, shopping areas, and hidden spots that you completely miss if you’re always rushing by on public transportation. Walking gives me a chance to slow down and actually notice things around me. Sometimes I discover a new restaurant, a quiet street, or a small local shop that I never would have seen otherwise.
Because I walk so much, having good shoes is extremely important to me.
During Golden Week, I decided it was finally time to buy a new pair of sneakers. My previous pair was from a very famous international brand, but honestly, they started falling apart much faster than I expected. Considering how much they cost, I was pretty disappointed. I use my shoes heavily every day, so durability matters a lot.
This time, I decided to try something different.
Instead of automatically buying another expensive international brand, I thought about companies in Japan that I already trust. One name immediately came to mind: Workman.
I’ve always respected Workman because their products are known for being practical, durable, and surprisingly affordable. Originally, many people associated Workman with work clothes and outdoor gear, but recently they’ve become much more popular for casual fashion and everyday wear too. A lot of people in Japan now use Workman products for walking, hiking, commuting, and daily life.
So during Golden Week, I went to Workman Colors in One’s Mall in Inage to check out their sneaker selection.
I spent a while trying on different pairs and walking around the store to see how they felt. Some were very lightweight, while others felt more designed for outdoor use. In the end, I found a pair that felt exactly right for me.
They were comfortable immediately, which is always a good sign.
They also felt sturdy and well-made, especially compared to my previous shoes. On top of that, I liked the design a lot. I usually prefer simple styles that work well with almost anything I wear, and these matched exactly what I was looking for.
Honestly, they checked every box for me.
Comfortable.
Stylish enough.
Good quality.
And reasonably priced.
Since buying them, I’ve already used them on several long walks around Chiba, and so far I’m extremely happy with the purchase. They’ve been great for everyday walking, and my feet definitely feel less tired after long days.
One thing I really appreciate about life in Japan is how much walking naturally becomes part of your daily routine. In some countries, people drive almost everywhere, even for short distances. But here, walking is just built into everyday life. You walk to the station, between stores, around neighborhoods, and through parks without even thinking about it.
I actually think that’s one of the reasons many people in Japan stay active without necessarily going to the gym every day.
Walking also helps me mentally reset.
As a teacher, my days are full of conversations, lessons, and energy, which I enjoy a lot. But taking a long walk after work helps me recharge and relax. Sometimes I listen to music or podcasts, and other times I just enjoy the atmosphere around me.
Of course, walking also creates great opportunities for language learning.
One thing I always tell students at Jabble Chiba is that English study doesn’t only happen inside a textbook. Real learning happens when you connect English to your actual life and interests. If you enjoy fashion, travel, sports, food, movies, or even sneakers, those can all become opportunities to learn and practice English naturally.
For example, you can:
- Read English product reviews
- Watch YouTube videos about shoes or fashion
- Learn new vocabulary while shopping
- Talk about your hobbies during English lessons
- Practice describing products and experiences in English
When English connects to something you genuinely enjoy, studying becomes much easier and much more motivating.
At Jabble Chiba, we always encourage students to talk about real experiences and real interests instead of only following textbook conversations. That’s one reason our lessons feel more natural and practical.
So yes, this Golden Week purchase may have just been a pair of sneakers, but for me, it was also a reminder that sometimes the simple everyday things can make life more enjoyable.
Now if you see me walking around Chiba in some new Workman sneakers, you’ll know the story behind them 😊
See you at Jabble!
