スタンドアップコメディ🎙

Hello everyone! This is Hitomi from the Jabble Musashi Kosugi school.

Did you know that you can see stand-up comedy in Shibuya? Stand-up isn’t that common in Japan yet, but it’s very popular in U.S. culture.
I have gone to a couple of stand-up shows in Shibuya. The first comedian I saw was British, but his stand-up was in Japanese.
The next time I went, I decided to see the English-speaking comedians. I was worried that I wouldn’t be able to understand them, but it turned out better than I expected.
It was pretty easy for me to understand the comedians that didn’t have strong accents, and they were funny!
It was more difficult to understand people who spoke too fast, had stronger accents, or talked about topics that I just don’t know about.

One interesting thing that I noticed was that Japanese people were the minority at the show.
Other than my friend and I, there were only two other Japanese people, and about 30 people from other countries.
I never feel like I’m in the minority in Japan, so that felt pretty strange.

A comedian from New York talked about how clean the toilets are in Japan, and how surprised he was that the seats on trains are so soft compared the hard plastic seats in New York trains. Another comedian who was overweight told a story about his daughter pointing to a picture of a pregnant woman above the priority seats, and said they were for “daddy”.
Another American comedian told a story about reverse culture shock when he went back to the U.S. because he had been steeped in Japanese life for so long.

渋谷でスタンドアップコメディが見られるのを知っていますか？日本ではまだなじみがないですが、アメリカではとてもポピュラーな文化です。
前回は日本語のものを見ましたが、今回は英語のものを見ました。理解できるか、不安でしたが、思った以上に楽しめました。
アクセントがない方の話は理解しやすく、面白かったです。
少し話すスピードが速い方や、アクセントがある方、バックグランドがわからない話題は、理解するのが難しかったです。

おもしろかったことは、そのショーで日本人が少数派だったということです。
私は日本人の友達と行ったのですが、私たち以外で日本人は2人で、残り30人くらいは外国人でした。
日本にいて、自分が少数派になることはないので、この空間がとても不思議でした。

NY出身の方は、日本のトイレの綺麗さや、電車のシートのフカフカなところに驚いた話をしました。
ふくよかなアメリカ人の方は、娘さんが電車で、優先席の妊婦の絵を指さしながら、ここはdaddyの席だと言った話をしました。
また別のアメリカ人は、日本に染まりすぎて、アメリカに帰った時に逆カルチャーショックがあった話などをしてくれました。
