My Favorite Udon Lunch in Musashi-Kosugi

 

Since I moved to the Jabble Musashi-Kosugi school, I’ve discovered a few new places to eat around the station. One place in particular has become a regular part of my week: an udon restaurant inside Musashi-Kosugi Station.

I’ve been having lunch there at least once a week, and it has become one of my favorite places for a quick and satisfying meal.

There are plenty of restaurants and places to eat around Musashi-Kosugi Station, but I like this udon restaurant because it’s convenient, simple, and perfect for a lunch break. When I’m working at the Musashi-Kosugi school, it’s easy to stop by the station, get a bowl of udon, and be back without spending too much time away from work.

 

 

My Favorite: Sudachi Bukkake Udon

At the moment, my go-to meal is the Sudachi Bukkake Udon.

If you haven’t tried it before, bukkake udon is a type of cold udon served with a concentrated sauce poured over the noodles. The sudachi, a small Japanese citrus fruit, gives the dish a fresh and slightly sour flavor.

I especially like it during the summer.

Japanese summers can be extremely hot and humid, so sometimes the last thing I want for lunch is something heavy or really hot. A cold bowl of udon with a refreshing citrus flavor is a much better choice.

The sudachi makes the whole dish feel light and fresh. The noodles are satisfying without being too heavy, and the citrus gives it a nice refreshing taste.

For me, it’s become the perfect summer lunch.

 

 

Discovering Japanese Seasonal Food

One thing I really enjoy about living in Japan is the importance placed on seasonal food.

Japan has a strong culture of eating foods that are associated with different seasons. You can see this everywhere, from restaurants changing their menus to convenience stores and supermarkets introducing seasonal products.

Even when you’re eating something as simple as udon, there are often different ingredients and dishes to look forward to depending on the time of year.

That’s one of the reasons I’m already looking forward to the restaurant changing its menu for autumn.

I always enjoy trying seasonal Japanese food, so I’m curious to see what the autumn specials will be like. After eating the Sudachi Bukkake Udon throughout the summer, it will be interesting to try something completely different when the weather starts to cool down.

 

 

From Summer to Autumn

There’s something nice about the change from summer to autumn in Japan.

In summer, refreshing foods like cold udon, watermelon, and other light dishes are perfect for dealing with the heat. Then, as autumn arrives, you start to see heartier foods and different seasonal ingredients appear on menus.

Autumn is one of my favorite times for food in Japan. There are so many ingredients associated with the season, including mushrooms, sweet potatoes, and chestnuts.

Restaurants often create special dishes using these ingredients, which gives you another reason to visit your favorite restaurants throughout the year.

That’s one of the things I like about the udon restaurant near Musashi-Kosugi Station. Even though I’ve found my current favorite dish, I know that I’ll have something new to try when the menu changes.

 

 

A Small Part of Life in Musashi-Kosugi

Since moving to the Musashi-Kosugi school, discovering places like this has been one of the enjoyable parts of getting to know the area.

Musashi-Kosugi has changed a lot over the years and has become a very convenient place to live, work, eat, and spend time. There are plenty of restaurants around the station, so even a simple lunch break can be an opportunity to discover something new.

Of course, working at Jabble Musashi-Kosugi isn’t all about finding good places to eat! I also enjoy meeting students from the area and helping them improve their English.

One of the things I like about teaching English is hearing about the different reasons people want to learn. Some students want to travel, some need English for work, and others simply want to feel more comfortable having conversations with people from different countries.

Living and working in Musashi-Kosugi gives me plenty of opportunities to experience the area from my own perspective while also hearing about it from our students.

For now, though, I’m happy to keep enjoying my weekly udon lunch.

The Sudachi Bukkake Udon is still my favorite, especially while the summer weather lasts. But with autumn approaching, I’m ready to see what the restaurant comes up with next.

I’ll definitely be checking out the new autumn menu soon.
