Hi everyone! It’s Angie from Jabble Funabashi Eikaiwa (船橋 Jabble 英会話スクール).
I hope the autumn weather is treating you well. I, for one, am really enjoying the cooler temperatures; I definitely don’t miss the sweltering summer heat.
That being said, it’s starting to get a bit more brisk than I’m comfortable with.
Maybe that’s why I found myself craving something warm and comforting—the kind of food that warms you from the inside out.
So earlier this month, I headed to the Tokyo Ramen Festa 2025 at Komazawa Olympic Park Plaza. Nothing beats a chilly afternoon like a good bowl of ramen!
Even before I reached the park, I could smell the broth drifting through the air.
Isn’t it funny how a familiar scent can make you feel instantly comfortable?
When I stepped inside the festival area, the scene was alive with steam rising into the crisp air and sizzling sounds coming from every direction.
People were buzzing excitedly as they tried to decide which bowl to start with. And honestly?
I was right there with them. Even though I had promised myself I’d be decisive, I was immediately overwhelmed.
At one end of the plaza, a J-pop idol group was performing on a large stage.
I didn’t recognize the group, but their music was so catchy that I accidentally stood there for fifteen minutes before remembering why I came.
It was one of those classic Tokyo moments—go in for ramen, get sidetracked by an idol concert.
Eventually, I pulled myself away and headed to the ticket booth to buy my voucher.
And then, the moment of truth: choosing my ramen. This year, the one that caught my attention instantly was the crab miso ramen from Hokkaido.
The banner showed a rich, golden miso broth topped with bright red crab and fragrant steam curling into the air.
I knew right away—that was the one.
When I received the bowl, it was almost too beautiful to eat. Almost.
The broth had this incredible depth to it: thick, savory miso infused with the sweetness of Hokkaido crab.
The aroma alone felt like winter comfort food at its finest. My first sip stopped me in my tracks.
It was rich without being heavy, buttery without being oily, and had this subtle seafood sweetness that blended perfectly with the miso.
It was the kind of flavor that blooms slowly on your tongue and makes you pause for a second.
The noodles were springy and slightly wavy, the kind that catch just the right amount of broth with every slurp.
They were the perfect match—strong enough to stand up to the thick miso, but not so thick that they overshadowed the crab flavor.
Every bite felt balanced and thoughtful, like the chefs crafted it with winter in mind.
The combination of miso and crab created a warmth that spread through my whole body.
I actually had to stop midway through and close my eyes for a second, just to savor that perfect mix of flavors. That’s how good it was.
I found myself thinking about how fun it would be to describe this ramen with my students during conversation class.
Words like creamy, rich, savory, sweet, ocean-like, comforting—they all floated through my mind as I ate.
It’s moments like this that remind me how everyday experiences can become meaningful English practice back at Jabble Funabashi.
By the time I finished, the chilly breeze didn’t feel chilly anymore.
I felt completely warmed from the inside out—mission accomplished.
Before leaving, I took one last look around the plaza. Families, couples, and friends were laughing, comparing bowls, and taking photos.
The atmosphere felt so cheerful and cozy, and I couldn’t help but feel grateful for these little moments that make autumn in Tokyo so special.
If you ever get the chance to try Hokkaido-style crab miso ramen—especially at Tokyo Ramen Festa—I can’t recommend it enough.
And of course, if you want to chat about food, fall adventures, or anything else in English, you’re always welcome to join me at Jabble. We have plenty to talk about!
