A Godzilla-Filled Golden Week: Visiting Awaji Island and Tokyo’s Mori Art Museum

Hello everyone, It’s Mark from Jabble Ochanomizu.
During Golden Week, my son and I went on a short family trip to Awaji Island and Akashi.
The main reason? Godzilla—my son’s absolute favorite monster. We were excited to check out the Godzilla Museum at Nijigen no Mori, a theme park on Awaji Island in Hyogo Prefecture.

The Godzilla Museum was filled with detailed Toho creature models, ranging in size from 20 to 50 centimeters.
My son loved seeing the classic monsters up close, and I was really impressed with the quality of the dioramas and the larger scale displays.
Although the museum itself was fairly small, it’s part of a larger Godzilla attraction that includes a zipline ride (right into Godzilla’s mouth!) and a short animated film.
Unfortunately, my son was too young for the zipline, so we stuck to the museum—but he still had a great time.

A few months later in Tokyo, we went to the Godzilla exhibition at the Mori Art Museum in Roppongi Hills.
This was a totally different experience—here, various artists created immersive and sometimes massive artworks inspired by Godzilla.
The exhibits were creative, visually stunning, and in some cases, even a bit surreal.
I think I personally enjoyed this one more, just because of the scale and imagination involved.

All in all, my son and I had a really good time over our Golden Week exploring Akashi and Awaji Island, and we both enjoyed the Godzilla museum there and the exhibition in Tokyo.

ゴールデンウィーク中、息子と一緒に淡路島と明石へ短い家族旅行に行ってきました。
目的は…もちろんゴジラ！息子が大好きな怪獣だからです。今回の旅で一番楽しみにしていたのは、
兵庫県の淡路島にあるテーマパーク「ニジゲンノモリ」にあるゴジラミュージアムの見学でした。

ミュージアムの中には、東宝のゴジラ映画に登場する様々な怪獣たちの模型がたくさん展示されていて、そのサイズは20cmから50cmほど。
息子は間近で見る怪獣たちに大興奮でしたし、私もジオラマや大きめの展示のクオリティには感心しました。
ミュージアム自体はそれほど大きくはありませんが、実はこれ、ジップライン（なんとゴジラの口に突入！）や短編アニメなどが含まれるゴジラアトラクションの一部なのです。
残念ながら、息子はジップラインの対象年齢に届かなかったので、ミュージアムだけ楽しみましたが、それでも十分満足できる内容でした。

数ヶ月後、今度は東京・六本木ヒルズにある森美術館で開催されたゴジラ展にも行ってきました。
こちらはまったく違うアプローチで、さまざまなアーティストがゴジラをテーマにしたインスタレーション作品やアートを展示していました。
スケールが大きく、没入感があり、クリエイティブでちょっと不思議な世界観も楽しめました。
個人的には、想像力あふれる展示のスケール感が印象的で、こちらの方がより楽しめたかもしれません。

淡路島と明石の旅行も、東京での展示も、とても良い思い出になりました。
もし時間があれば、ぜひそれらの場所を訪れてみてください。ゴジラファンの方はもちろん、ちょっと変わったレジャーを探している方にもぴったりですよ。
