Riding the Chiba Monorail – A Fun and Unique Way to Explore the City

Hi everyone! Jesse here from Jabble Chiba.
If you’ve ever looked up while walking around Chiba and thought, “Is that a train flying above me?”—you’re not dreaming!
That’s the Chiba Urban Monorail, and yes, it really hangs from the tracks. It’s the world’s longest suspended monorail, and it’s one of my favorite things about living in Chiba.
Let me share why this monorail isn’t just a cool way to get around, but also a fun part of everyday life—and even something we sometimes talk about in English class!

🚝 What Makes the Chiba Monorail Special?
Unlike traditional trains that ride on top of tracks, the Chiba Monorail hangs from them.
When you’re sitting inside, it feels like you’re gliding through the city. The view from above is great—you can see the streets, parks, and buildings from a whole new angle.
There are two lines and many convenient stops. My favorite ride is from Chiba Station to the Zoological Park. It’s quiet, smooth, and kind of feels like a ride at an amusement park.

🐵 A Great Way to Practice English
In our classes at Jabble, I sometimes ask students to describe their favorite places in Chiba. The monorail comes up a lot.
It’s a fun topic for practicing direction words (like “next to,” “across from,” or “go straight”) and learning how to explain unique parts of Japanese life to foreigners.
For example, students might try explaining:
How the monorail works

Where they go when they ride it

Why it’s special compared to regular trains

Even small, everyday things like transportation can be great conversation starters.

✨ A Small Adventure in Daily Life
If you haven’t ridden the monorail in a while, I recommend taking a trip—even just a short one. It’s affordable, fun, and offers a new perspective on the city.
Plus, it’s a great excuse to explore a new area or visit a local café, museum, or park.

実はあれ、千葉都市モノレールなんです。本当に“ぶら下がって”走っているんですよ！これは世界最長の懸垂型モノレールで、僕が千葉で生活する中で一番好きなものの一つです。
今回は、このモノレールの魅力や、なぜ日常生活の中で特別な存在なのかを紹介したいと思います。英会話レッスンの中でもよく話題にするテーマなんです！

🚝 千葉モノレールの魅力とは？
普通の電車は線路の上を走りますが、千葉モノレールは線路から“ぶら下がって”走ります。車内からの眺めはとても新鮮で、街や公園、建物をいつもと違う視点から見ることができます。
モノレールは2路線あり、様々な便利な駅に停まります。僕のお気に入りのルートは、千葉駅から動物公園までの区間。静かでスムーズな乗り心地で、まるで遊園地のアトラクションに乗っているような感覚です。

🐵 英語学習のきっかけにも！
ジャブルのレッスンでは、「千葉の好きな場所」について話す練習をすることがあります。そんな時、モノレールの話題がよく出てきます。
場所の説明をする練習や、日本独特の交通機関について英語で伝える練習にぴったりなんです。
