SUMMARY(あらすじ):
カエルとヒキガエルは大の仲良し。何でも一緒にやります。ヒキガエルがカエルの庭で花を見ている時、カエルはヒキガエルが自分の庭を作れるようにに種をあげます。ヒキガエルがクッキーを焼く時、カエルは食べるのを手伝います。カエルとヒキガエルが2人で怖い目にあった時には、2人で一緒に乗り越えます。
Frog and toad are best friends, they do everything together. When Toad is looking at the flowers in Frog’s garden, Frog gives him seeds to grow his own garden. When Toad bakes cookies, Frog helps him eat them. And when both Frog and Toad are scared, they are brave together.

作者のローベルは体が弱く、小学2年生まで学校を学校を休みがちで、時間のある時は絵を描いて過ごしていました。カエルとヒキガエルの絵を描くことで、彼はリラックスでき、友達を作ることができました。カエルとヒキガエルは彼自身の二つの側面を表していると、ローベルは言います。
Lobel was sick a lot and didn’t go to school often in 2nd grade. In his free time he liked to draw. He drew pictures of Frog and Toad to help him relax and make friends again. Lobel said “Frog and Toad are really two aspects of myself.’’

8歳のファーン・エラブルは、父親が彼の豚の中で一番小さな子豚を殺す事を知って、絶望します。彼女はその子豚にも生きる権利がある、そして自分が面倒をみると父親を説得し、その子にウィルバーの名付けます。ウィルバーが大きくなりすぎると、ファーンは彼を叔父に売るよう強要されます。ウィルバーは自分が屠殺されてクリスマスのディナーになる事を知り、悲しみに明け暮れます。毛むくじゃらのクモ、シャーロットはネズミのテンプルトンや納屋にいる他の動物の力を借りて、彼を助け出す事を決心しします。
Eight-year-old Fern Arable is devastated when she hears that her father is going to kill the runt of his pig’s new litter. Persuading him that the piglet has the right to live and promising to look after it, she saves the animal and names him Wilbur. When Wilbur becomes too large, Fern is forced to sell him to her uncle. When Wilbur finds out that he will soon be slaughtered for Christmas dinner, he is horribly sad. Charlotte—the hairy barn spider—decides to help him, with the assistance of a sneaky rat named Templeton and some of the other animals in the barn they must save his life.

Charlotte’s Web was published in 1952. The book is a classic of children’s literature, but adults also enjoy it.
The original cover, drawn by Garth Williams, was sold at a New York auction for $155,000(￥16,950,000).

SUMMARY(あらすじ):
ジェス・アーロン図はアメリカ南部の田舎に暮らす、走るのが大好きな少年です。彼は5年生の中で一番早くなれば、忙しい父の気を引けると思いました。ジェスは絵を描くことも大好きでしたが、彼の父はそれは女の子がする事だと考えていました。だから彼は、自分が走りで一番になれば、父親とクラスメートに自分のすごさを見せつけられると思ったのです。彼は毎晩トレーニングをし、勝つことを夢見ていました。しかし勝ったのは、新しく転校してきた少女、レスリー・バークでした。
ジェスとレスリーは友達になります。二人は森の中の小川の向こうに、秘密の魔法の国を作り、テラビシアと名付けました。二人はいつもそこで遊びました。テラビシアにいる間は学校の意地悪な子達や、ジェスの家族のことを忘れることができました。ジェスは自分の問題と向き合うことを学び、レスリーは彼を勇気づけます。そして、ある悲劇が起こり、ジェスはそのこととも向き合っていくことになるのです。
Jess Aarons lives in a rural area in the south of the U.S. and loves to run. He wants to be the fastest boy in the fifth grade, because it’ll give him the attention of his busy father. Jess loves to paint and draw, but he knows that his father thinks this is girly. He thinks winning is very important and his father and schoolmates will think he’s great if he wins. He practices each morning and dreams of winning. However, a new girl, Leslie Burke, wins instead.
Jess and Leslie become friends. They build a secret fantasyland across the creek in the woods, called Terabithia. They play all the time. In Terabithia they forget mean kids at school and Jess’s family. Jess learns to face his problems and Leslie encourages him.
Then something terrible happens and Jess learns how to face that too.

キャサリン・パターソン作、テラビシアにかける橋は1997年に出版され、1978年にはアメリカの児童文学賞、ニューベリー賞を受賞しました。
世界中の英語の授業でこの本が使用されましたが、内容を問題視する声も上がりました。死を扱っていた事、クリスチャンではない事、汚い言葉が使われている事などが原因です。
1985年と2007年には映画も制作されました。
Bridge to Terabithia is a children’s novel written by Katherine Paterson and published in 1977. In 1978, it won the Newbery Medal.
English classes around the world study this book. However, many groups censor this book because it talks about death, it’s not Christian, and it uses bad words.
Two movies were based on this novel. One in 1985 and one in 2007.
