Holes by Louis Sacher

SUMMARY(あらすじ):
Stanley Yelnats is cursed. The curse began with his “no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather”. Now Stanley has to go to a boys’ detention center called Camp Green Lake for a crime he didn’t commit. There the boys spend all day, every day digging holes exactly five feet wide and five feet deep. There is no lake at Camp Green Lake. But there are a lot of holes.
Stanley quickly realizes the boys are digging holes because the warden is looking for something. But what could be buried under a dry lake? Stanley tries to find the truth in this creative story that has crime and punishment—and redemption.

QUOTE(本文より抜粋):
”There used to be the town of Green Lake as well. The town shriveled and dried up along with the lake, and the people who lived there. During the summer the daytime temperature hovers around ninety-five degrees in the shade—if you can find any shade. There’s not much shade in a big dry lake.”

Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson

SUMMARY(あらすじ):
Jess Aarons lives in a rural area in the south of the U.S. and loves to run. He wants to be the fastest boy in the fifth grade, because it’ll give him the attention of his busy father. Jess loves to paint and draw, but he knows that his father thinks this is girly. He thinks winning is very important and his father and schoolmates will think he’s great if he wins. He practices each morning and dreams of winning. However, a new girl, Leslie Burke, wins instead.
Jess and Leslie become friends. They build a secret fantasyland across the creek in the woods, called Terabithia. They play all the time. In Terabithia they forget mean kids at school and Jess’s family. Jess learns to face his problems and Leslie encourages him.
Then something terrible happens and Jess learns how to face that too.

QUOTE(本文より抜粋):
“It was Leslie who had taken him from the cow pasture into Terabithia and turned him into a king. He had thought that was it. Wasn’t king the best you could be? Now it occurred to him that perhaps Terabithia was like a castle where you came to be knighted. After you stayed for a while and grew strong you had to move on.”

 The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

SUMMARY(あらすじ):
An Andalusian shepherd boy named Santiago travels from his homeland in Spain to the Egyptian desert to find a treasure buried near the Pyramids. He saw this treasure in a dream. On his trip he meets a Gypsy woman, a man who calls himself king, and an alchemist. They give him advice and he learns a lot about himself. The story is more about the importance of listening to our hearts than buried treasure.

QUOTE(本文より抜粋):
A) “If I serve tea in crystal, the shop is going to expand. And
then I’ll have to change my way of life.”

B) “Well, isn’t that good?”

A) “I’m already used to the way things are… The shop is exactly the
size I always wanted it to be. I don’t want to change anything,
because I don’t know how to deal with change. I’m used to the way I
am. You are forcing me to look at wealth and at horizons I have never known.
Now that I have seen them, and now that I see how immense my possibilities are, I’m going to feel worse than I did before you arrived. Because I know the things I should be able to accomplish and I don’t want to do so.”

~Gilled peaches with vanilla ice cream~

Most people have never thought that grilled peaches and vanilla ice cream make the perfect combo!
One of my all time favorite desserts, so let’s go over how to easily grill peaches! Don’t forget to tell us how it goes!

Time: 5 Min

Serving: 4-5 peaches

You will need a grill pan *you can also use your oven’s broil function*

Ingredients:

-2 ripe peaches(熟したピーチ)

-canola oil (菜種油)
*you can substitute for sunflower oil or extra virgin olive oil(ひまわり油やオリーブオイルと代替可能)*

-Vanilla ice cream(バニラアイス)

-Honey or salt for topping depending on your preferences(お好みでトッピング用ハチミツか塩)

Directions:

-Heat the grill to medium high heat.

-Cut your peaches in half and take the pits out.

-spread a touch of canola oil on the peach halves and place them on the grill pan for a little (about 2min), then rotate 90 degrees and continue cooking them for another 1-2 mins. You want to see grill marks and the fruit start to caramelize.

-Remove the peaches and serve with a scoop of ice cream in the center of the peach!

feel free to drizzle some honey to add sweetness, or sprinkle some salt to give it a good balance.

Easy Meat Quesadilla!
Cheesy with lots of flavor! This recipe is perfect for those nights you just want to relax and make something quick. In this recipe I’m just going to share what I usually put in my quesadillas but you can put almost anything in these, so feel free to try out other ingredients, and don’t forget to share with us how it goes!

Time: 15min(15分)
Serving: 1 – 2 people(1-2人用)

Ingredients:
-Meat of your choice <I recommend chicken or beef!> (お好きなお肉<オススメはチキンかビーフ!>)
-Garlic powder(ガーリックパウダー)
-Green bell pepper(ピーマン)
-Green onion(青ネギ)
-Tomatoes(トマト)
-Soft tortillas(ソフトトルティーヤ)
-Mixed shredded cheese(ミックスチーズ)

Directions:
Cut up your tomato, green onion, bell pepper, and chosen meat into small pieces and saute together in a pan. Add a little bit of garlic powder. Once everything has been full cooked sprinkle some cheese on top of your ingredients, no need to mix it! (I personally LOVE cheese and usually use a lot of it). It only takes a few minutes for the cheese to melt, when it does take our spatula and nicely lay the ingredients on your tortilla. After, take one more slice of tortilla and place it on top, like a sandwich. Cut into slices and enjoy!
